PADEL ACCESSORIES: THE 3 ESSENTIALS ON COURT
Beyond the racket and balls, certain padel accessories make a genuine difference on court. Here are the three categories every regular player should have in their padel bag.
EDGE GUARD
An adhesive TPU strip that absorbs impacts against the glass and mesh. Extends the life of your racket by months. Thicker versions give better cushioning but add 3-5g of head weight.
WRISTBAND
A wristband stops sweat from running down onto your overgrip. Microfibre absorbent models work far better than standard cotton. A small detail that stops the racket slipping mid-rally.
VIBRATION DAMPENER
Silicone inserts in the racket holes (ShockOut, VibraStop) or the Hesacore grip that increases the contact surface with the handle. Reduces the vibrations that cause “tennis elbow” in padel players.
HOW TO FIT AN EDGE GUARD
- 01 Clean the frame with a cloth and isopropyl alcohol
- 02 Peel the protection strip from its adhesive backing
- 03 Start from the centre of the head, stretch towards the sides
- 04 Press firmly to remove air bubbles
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does an edge guard change the racket's balance?
Thin, clear guards have virtually no effect. Thicker TPU versions add 3 to 5 grams to the head, which slightly increases power but marginally reduces manoeuvrability.
Do vibration dampeners actually work?
The science is debated, but many players report noticeably more comfort. The Hesacore grip is particularly interesting: by increasing the contact area between hand and handle, it reduces grip pressure and relaxes the forearm muscles.
